Leaving Park City required an early start. I had to drive west on I-80 through Salt Lake City and across Utah and then Nevada. It’s a beautiful drive, especially in the morning light, but it is a long day on the 4Runner!
I was headed to Truckee where I would spend the night and then jump back in the truck to head down to Nevada City the very next morning. John, Active Life 2.0, was meeting me at the trailhead to show me some of his favorite tracks in the area.
About ah hour south of Truckee on mountainous Highway 20, Parliament Trails are managed by BONC – Bicyclists of Nevada County. Located in the Deer Creek area just above Scotts Flat Reservoir, this small but potent trail system is beautifully nestled among the pines and well-loved by the locals. I was about to find out why!
After an amazing series of downhills, we climbed back up to the vehicles on Scotts Flat Road. This road, well, it sucked. After about fifteen aggressive trail miles, my body wasn’t ready for a hard climb in direct sunlight.
Thanks to John for showing me a great day and a great new trail system, and thanks to all of you for joining me on a fun ride! I’ll see you when I see you!
