While touring on my 2020 road trip, I stopped in Crested Butte, Colorado and rode Monarch Crest and Agate Creek. It was an intense and challenging ride and it was a whole lot of fun!
I had been up Monarch Crest previously – just 4 days earlier – and descended Silver Creek into Salida. That ride was amazing, but this ride was EPIC.
We climbed and dropped through several mountain passes and eventually dropped down a trail called Doctor Park. This trail contains variety. At times it is smooth and flowy. It also has moments of rage – it wants to throw you from your steed and land you in a river or down a ravine. It’s fast, it’s steep, and it is soft and sweet. Like a spurned lover, Doctor Park is initially beautiful, but it occasionally shows its crazy side and might stab you in the back with you aren’t looking.
Overall, it was a GREAT day. This ride was easily the toughest of the Chasing Epic tour, but it was also the most rewarding. With snow threatening our next riding day, I was making decisions to leave town a day early and head to Moab. Stay tuned to find out where I landed…
