While on the road trip I made a stop in the French Quarter for a weekend to attend a friend’s bachelor party.
Between the great food, awesome music, and constant celebration, I probably destroyed any fitness I had built up to this point in the trip.
But it was worth it.
I spent one morning riding the streets of the Quarter and the riverfront in town. After loading up the truck, I headed north through Mississippi for my eventual destination in Bentonville, Arkansas the following weekend. This stop was in the tiny and peaceful town of Brookhaven. This is where the rolling hills meet up with the humidity to make for a trail system that offers miles of trails compacted into a fairly small footprint.
The Mount Zion Trails offers probably around twenty miles of dirt that runs through dense swamps and forest about 20 minutes northwest of town. This place look like it hosts a very active community of riders that build and maintain the trails. One feature that I wasn’t prepared to see was the Mt. Zion base of operations; a makeshift deck and outhouse that hosts a small reception area, lounge, and other amenities for trail riders. I bet the parties they throw here are fantastic!
