I rode Animas Mountain in Durango. I had a free afternoon and I had never conquered that hill, so I decided to give it a shot!
The locals do not ride this mountain (well, very few do). It is primarily a hiking spot. Animas Mountain gives amazing trails and beautiful views to anyone who ventures onto its path. But most of those people are on foot.
The issue with Animas Mountain is that the trails are extremely rocky and loose. The climbs are considered to be black diamond level. Chunky trails, large, loose rocks (baby heads), and steep switchbacks make the climb more of an endurance and skills challenge than anything else. This mountain pushes back!
